Sweet Beulah Land: A Journey in Faith and Music
In 1985, my music journey officially began. But in truth, it started much earlier—rooted in faith, family, and the joy of singing praises to God. Through every note and every performance, He has directed my path, provided the opportunities, and placed people in my life to encourage me along the way.
It was my parents and my husband who first encouraged me to record a CD of my favorite songs. These were the songs that had carried me through life, songs that had become part of me. Music was always in our home, and as a small child, I would sing with my family at church. I will never forget one particularly beautiful Sunday when our family sang We've Come This Far by Faith—and guess who had a solo? Me! It was my very first solo, and it was broadcast on the local radio station. That moment was the beginning of a lifelong journey in music.
As I grew, so did my passion for singing. My siblings and I continued to share our love for music, and one year at a camp competition, I entered the solo category. Standing in front of over a thousand people, I struggled to find my confidence, but God carried me through. That experience was just one of many that helped shape me into the singer I would become.
In my teenage years, I had the incredible opportunity to travel with our school chorus group. But the real turning point came when my dad sat me down and said, "Missy, others need to hear you!" His words stayed with me, and at just 16 years old, I embarked on my first solo tour—just me and my background music, stepping out in faith and sharing the gift God had given me.
Years later, my husband gave me one of the greatest surprises of my life—a special trip to Chesapeake, Virginia, to record my very first album, Sweet Beulah Land. The studio was an incredible place, even featuring life-sized toys used for Toys 'R' Us commercials! But the real magic happened in the recording booth, where I poured my heart into each song, knowing that this was exactly where God wanted me to be.
Fast forward to today—2025, at 62 years old. Here I am, sharing my story on a website with a social platform, connecting with listeners in new ways. My manager is none other than my son, John Michael Johnson, who has been a steadfast supporter of my music journey. I am grateful beyond words for every person who has listened, encouraged, and supported me over the years.
Thank you, dear listeners, for being a part of this journey. May the songs I sing continue to bless you as much as they have blessed me.
