He's Still Workin' on Me

Peter Pan once said he never wanted to grow up. Have you ever felt that way? Looking back, I see that while I have grown older, I am still a work in progress. When I was a child, I wrote down my dreams on a sheet of notebook paper. My list was simple but ambitious—I wanted to be a preacher’s wife, a veterinarian, and a baker. At sixty-one, I can look back and see that two of those dreams became a reality. I became a preacher’s wife and a baker, but the veterinarian dream never came to be. Still, my love for animals never faded. Through the years, I have been blessed with horses, bunnies, dogs, and fish, each bringing their own joy and lessons along the way.

My childhood was filled with adventure—camping, Disney World trips, vacations, road trips to visit grandparents, and endless summer days of swimming, boating, fishing, and even surfing. Life was full of fun and discovery. But woven into all of that excitement was something deeper—faith.

Our family was in church every Sunday and Wednesday. We attended camps, retreats, and Vacation Bible School. We weren’t just participants; we helped wherever we could, whether it was assisting the pastor or serving in ministry. Those experiences shaped me as I grew into adulthood.

Life has been a journey—college, marriage, raising children and grandchildren, serving in ministry. And yet, I know I am not finished. I am still following the Leader, my Savior. He is still working on me, guiding me, and shaping me into who He wants me to be.

Even now, as I look back on all the years and the dreams that did and didn’t come true, I see His hand in it all. Every experience, every challenge, every joy—it’s all been part of His plan. I may not have become a veterinarian, but I did become exactly who He wanted me to be. And I know He’s not done yet.
