El Shaddai: A Child's Questions, A Lifelong Journey

As a four-year-old, I had questions—big questions. My mind wandered through the mysteries of faith, asking: Does God love me? Jesus, can You hear me? What is sin? Where is heaven? How do I go to heaven? These weren’t just idle musings; they were the stirrings of a heart yearning for understanding, a soul longing for connection with the divine.

The Innocence of Faith

Children often ask the most profound questions, unfiltered and raw. When I first heard Bible stories, they weren’t just tales; they were windows into something greater, something eternal. My mother, a guiding light, would share passages from the Bible, her voice carrying the weight of generations before her who had also sought the truth. Through her, I glimpsed the power of Scripture, the foundation of faith.

The Mystery of Salvation

As I grew, so did my understanding. I encountered the words of Romans:

  • For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23).

  • For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23).

  • But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8).

  • That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10).

  • For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13).

These verses became more than words on a page; they were the map to salvation, the answer to my childhood questions.

A Personal Prayer

I remember the moment I prayed with sincerity: "Lord, I know that I’m a sinner and need Your forgiveness. When I stray on my own, I reject You. But now, I ask You to come into my heart. Guide me, change me, and help me be a light to others. I love You and trust in You."

It was a simple prayer, but in that moment, my faith became real. Not just a family tradition, not just stories from Sunday School, but a personal relationship with God.

Faith Through the Years

Faith is a journey, not just a single step. As the years have passed, my questions have evolved, but the foundation remains the same. The God I sought as a child is the same God who leads me today.

Looking back, I see the beauty of that childlike wonder—how it led me to a deeper understanding of grace and redemption. And as I continue to grow, I pray that same wonder never fades, that my heart remains open to learning, seeking, and trusting in El Shaddai, the Almighty God.
